Outside my Window ... a cloudy grey day. The forecast shows rain is moving in which our garden desperately needs.
I am thinking ... that it is so worth it to get up for a bit before the girls do for a few precious moments by myself. Now, to just get back in the habit. I'm not talking 5 a.m., but if I can even get up by 6:30 before they all are allowed out of their bed at 7 a.m., I can at least get my Bible chapters read for the day. Still working on my read-through-the-Bible schedule and will finish 1 Chronicles tomorrow ... or that's the plan anyway.
I am thankful for ... a fun (but exhausting!) Mother's Day yesterday. My girls presented me with some perfume that they picked out for me and three bags of assorted candy (which they offered to help me eat). : ) There was a good morning at church, a family lunch where we celebrated THREE birthdays - my Dad's, my Mom's and BBoo's - with extended family, yummy fried chicken, and lots of bike riding by those that are not currently pregnant and having issues with balance. A good day that resulted in me fast asleep on the couch about 9 pm. : )
In the learning room ... seven days of school left! We're going to spend the rest of this week reading about Italy and pizza using this fun Download N Go study as a guide. It's hard to believe that we are almost done with this year and then I will have a first grader.
From the kitchen ... working my way through my May menu which isn't terribly exciting, and trying to pre-think a list of some summer meals that I can put into rotation. I know once it starts to get really warm I'm going to be wanting cold suppers in the evening, and my family has their limit of how much pasta salad they will take. : ) We can eat salad, which we love, and there is always the sandwich, but I'm needing other suggestions. Do you have any good dinners that your family enjoys in the hot weather? I'm taking all suggestions.
I am creating ... Hoping to finish up my Week in a Life album this week. It's all assembled, I just need to do the journaling.
I am going ... to have a busy week this week ... it's May. Second only to December in busy-ness in my opinion! : ) Tonight is a girl scout activity for N1 and tomorrow we might go to see cousin J in her first softball game (but I'm undecided on that ... we may wait for another game since there is rain in the forecast.) Wednesday is our last Awana night of the year. Also, this weekend, the girls and I, along with their cousins and my sister, are taking my Mom to a performance at the Nashville Children's Theater to see Charlotte's Web. N1 and I went this past weekend with her girl scout troop and it was excellent!
I am wearing ... black yoga pants and a bright orange t-shirt. I need to get dressed.
I am reading ... after watching the new Sherlock Holmes movie with T last week (or trying ... I don't think I ever really finished it), I realized that I've never read any of the book. We have this on the shelf, so I'm going to start that next. The girls and I are reading The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and I'm going to be thinking through a little list of chapter books for the summer for us. I definitely don't want us to lose our read-aloud groove over the summer)
I am hoping ... for fun (and good) news for a friend who is having an ultrasound tomorrow! Can't wait to find out about this little one that is going to be born just a few weeks before mine.
I am hearing ... the girls watch one video before we turn off the TV for the day. We've been doing great with our no TV on school days rule, but I made an exception this morning so I could get a few computer things done. : )
Around the house ... needs some picking up after our extremely busy weekend. On tap today: some laundry, mopping the bathroom and kitchen, and a little time working on the girls' bedroom.
One of my favorite things ... diet AW root beer. My favorite right now. That and pimento cheese sandwiches. They have been a craving for a few days now. And dill pickles. : ) An eclectic mix.
A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week ... I mentioned most of our "going" already, but I do have a few other "to-do's" to fit in: finding a birthday gift for my brother-in-law, making a few plans for the last days of school next week as well of some things that I want to do this summer with the girls, etc. Our ultrasound is a week from today, so next week you will probably find some baby to-do's on my list once we know what this little one is, so I want to get some of my big girl things taken care of this week.
Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you ...

Welcome and happy Monday! If you are new to my blog (here via the Bloggy Giveaway hosted by Shannon at Rocks in My Dryer ), welcome. : ) I...
I'm impressed that you are thinking about summer meals already! I haven't decided what to make for dinner tonight, exactly. I sorta know. But not fully. =D
ReplyDeleteAs for cold dinners.....we like fresh, homemade bread and fruit salads, sandwiches, smoothies. Anything I can think of, really, that involves cold fruit!
I like the picture. =)
Are the girls good veggie eaters? I've cut up bell peppers (any color!) and wrapped strips of ham or turkey cold cuts around them.
ReplyDeleteIf they like tomatoes and mozzarella, you can do the caprese salad (tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, fresh basil all drizzled with a little bit of olive oil and a bare touch of balsamic vinegar) as "leaning towers" - cut the tomato in full round slices, then stack tomato-cheese-basil and repeat. Pour the oil & vinegar over and voila - leaning towers!
A cheese & fruit platter is nice - maybe something fun like the string cheese spirals from Aldi, a cubed up monterey jack. Add fresh strawberries or another fruit.
Add some fresh to any of these, and I'm likely to come join you for dinner!
@Diane: I have two that are fairly good veggie eaters and would probably love some of these ideas. And I totally forgot about a tomato/mozzarella salad. Yum! Thank you!!
