August Anniversary, etc., Daybook

Outside my Window ... it is hotter than hot. I am ready for some fall coolness in the air!

I am thinking ... that we have survived our first week of school. Some days have gone really well, some have been a little rocky. But we have started.

I am thankful for ... how well this week has gone. We have had a few bumps, but over all, the girls have really gotten back into the swing of school, and the little girls have jumped in with both feet. More on this (hopefully) later.

In the learning room ... I'm hoping to do a wrap-up post this weekend of our first week, but, to summarize, we have cracked open our new books and gotten our first taste of what history and science will be like this year.

From the kitchen ... meal planning with a vengeance! I spent time last week getting meals mapped out for August knowing that getting us started in school was going to take a lot of my brain-power for the next few weeks. I'm working on rekindling my relationship with my crock pot so that I can prep dinner in the morning. I made a pork chop dish on Tuesday that I hadn't made in YEARS (delicious!) and that will be showing up more this fall.

I am creating ... a bit too much for my head to process right now! Lesson plans, 50th wedding anniversary invitations, baby boy shower invitations, surprise birthday party invitations ... and that week in the life project that I wanted to spend time on this week. Too many irons in the fire right now. My one goal this weekend? Clean off my desk and start fresh next week.

I am going ... not many places right now. One of the things I love about school starting is that our life slows WAY down. Most of our activities don't start up for a few more weeks and so I'm am thoroughly enjoying these stay-at-home days. A nice change of pace from our summer of go, go, go. We have been home almost every day this week with a few exceptions - errands and the library on Tuesday, an anniversary dinner and date for me and T on Wednesday, and we are swimming with friends this afternoon. This is my kind of schedule.

I am wearing ... jammies. Must get dressed.

I am reading ... One Thousand Gifts slowly. Rainbow Valley for fun as I have a few minutes to spare. Little Men with the girls. So many books that I want to read right now.

I am hoping ... to actually sit and catch my breath this weekend. This first week of school, the little projects (see creating above) that had fast deadlines, and a baby that will not sleep through the night has made this Mama feel the need for a little downtime. With a book. And some iced tea. And maybe a pillow. : )

I am hearing ... little girls coloring and beginning their day. I need to get up and move towards breakfast and starting our day with them!

Around the house ... the girls and I spent some time yesterday cleaning the school room and bedrooms and I am pleased with our progress! I'm going to have to figure out a way to get my good summer cleaning rotation to fit in with school. There's a way, I just haven't quite tapped into it yet. Today will include vacuuming and mopping the kitchen floor, though. I guarantee it. : )

One of my favorite things ... opening up the new crayons that we bought for the start of school. This year, I went all out and bought the girls the 66-pack of crayons. I usually grab several of the 20 color boxes that are on sale this time of year, but I love having all the extra colors and I knew they would, too. Makes coloring work a LOT more fun in my opinion.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week ... swimming today, a few errands tomorrow, and hosting a small shower on Sunday for a friend's son. One of those weekends that I'm looking forward to, but will be glad to see my slow Monday on the other side, if that makes sense.

Happy Friday! I'm off to start my day with little people.

  1. This post makes everything sound calm and relaxed. Hopefully it really is! =) We've been enjoying the summer weather which FINALLY arrived. But our "hot" is 89 degrees. (Disgusting, isn't it?) And there's a breeze to boot. (I love Oregon "summer"!)

One of my goals this year has been to diversify my reading. As I've spent the last 17 years homeschooling anywhere from 1-4 kids, I woul...
